How it works

1

Choose a name

Your address is that name plus @themailinator.com. Nothing is registered to you.

2

Copy the address

Paste it where a site asks for your email. A sign-up, a code, or a newsletter all work.

3

Read the mail here

Come back to the same name and press Refresh. The message shows up in this inbox.

What you can use it for

Receive mail online

  • A sign-up that asks for an email address
  • A verification code
  • A newsletter you want to keep out of your everyday inbox

Then read it here

  • Copy the full address from the inbox page
  • Use that address on the other site
  • Return and refresh when you are ready to read the message

Temporary email questions

Do I need an account?

No. Type a mailbox name and open it. There is no password, no profile, and no confirmation email from this site.

How do I open an inbox?

On the home page, or on the Create free email page, type a name and open the inbox. You can also go straight to /inbox/ and then the name, for example /inbox/signup.

Which domain do I use?

Use @themailinator.com. The name you choose goes in front of that domain. Addresses on any other domain are not inboxes on this site.

Can I paste a full email address?

Yes. If you paste name@themailinator.com, the site opens that inbox. A full address on a different domain is rejected.

Does capitalisation matter?

No. Signup-Test and signup-test are the same inbox. The page uses the lowercase form.

Does opening a message mark it read?

Yes, for this browser session. Unread messages stay bold until you open them here. Mark unread puts one back. Closing the browser clears that list. Another person, or another browser, keeps a separate list.

Temporary email and disposable inboxes

Free temporary email

A temporary email address lets you receive mail online without a signup or a password. Choose a name, add @themailinator.com, and open the inbox. People also look for this as a disposable email address, a temporary email inbox, or a free temporary email they can drop when they are done.

Use it for a sign-up form, a verification code, or a newsletter. Copy the address, use it on the other site, then come back and read the message.

Disposable email inbox

A disposable email inbox is one address you open in the browser. There is no account and no password. Read what arrived, then leave the name behind when you are finished.

Each name is its own inbox. When you want a fresh address, create another one instead of mixing two sign-ups in the same list.
